A Super Simple Tip for Getting Rid of the Work Burnout that’s Keeping You Stuck

Aug 23, 2018

It’s one thing to feel burned out with work for a short period of time when you’re dealing with a finite project with a set start and end date.

We can usually deal with that, knowing that there’s an end in sight (and possibly a rejuvenating spa treatment or weekend away in the near future that will bring us back to equilibrium).

It’s quite another thing, however, to be in a work situation that keeps you mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted for extended periods of time.

A situation where you feel completely out of control, and like your schedule is in charge of you instead of the other way around.

So much so that you can barely drag yourself out of bed; you’re struggling to muster up the energy to make it through the day; you’re constantly daydreaming about quitting your job altogether so you can open a surf shack on a beach in the Caribbean somewhere.

When you’re at that point, it’s time to make some changes…unless you really just love the sand THAT much.

One fast and simple way you can use now to get out of that place of burnout is to take short, periodic breaks from your devices and technology.

Yes, it’s that simple!

But, let me guess…not so easy, right?!

I know, I know, you NEED to be available 24/7/365. You’re so sought after at work that taking a few 15-minute breaks a week from your iPhone and your Outlook will literally stop the world from turning.

Or, is it that you taking a few 15-minute breaks a week from your technology will cause your own head to explode from withdrawal?

I promise you that neither of these will happen.

But, what WILL happen is that you will begin to feel powerful and in control of your schedule, and not constantly beholden to the schedules of everyone who is trying to get in touch with you all day and night.

Because powerlessness and burnout go hand-in-hand, taking control of your schedule in even this small (yet HUGE) way will be transformative for you…once you get over the shock (and fear?) of not being constantly available.
