What Are You ‘Training Your Boss’ to Expect from You?
Do you ever work extremely hard to complete a project at the office…
…maybe sacrificing time cozying up with your partner on the couch and missing your kid’s game in order to get it done?
Yet, when someone compliments you on the results you achieve, your response is all
“Aw shucks, that ole’ thing. It was nothing.”
Maybe you believe that making something hard look like it was super easy for you is the correct way to show yourself as a leader.
(It’s not.)
Or perhaps you think that taking no credit for all your hard work is the right way to be a ‘team player’.
(Nope.)
Really, all you’re doing when you don’t take the credit you deserve and when you act like all your sacrifice is no big deal is TRAINING YOUR BOSS to expect more of that SACRIFICE from you.
But, if she doesn’t know all that you gave up to make her life easier, then she can’t value, appreciate, and respect you for it.
And I’m gonna go out on a limb and say…you want to be valued, appreciated, and respected. Am I right?
Hey, we can’t all be Beyonce. We didn’t all ‘wake up like this’.
Most of us have to put the effort in if we’re going to ‘make it happen’.
And if we’re willing to do that, then it’s ok to let ‘em know that we did. In fact, I say it’s a darn good idea.
Have you ever felt uncomfortable accepting a compliment for a project or assignment, even though you knew you worked you’re a$$ off to make it happen?
